Payday 3: How to Shout at Civilians

A vital part of stealth in Payday 3 is keeping civilians under control through shouting. Here's how to use this method.

Payday 3 is a heist game where things can stay quiet or get loud. Either way, there are times when you need to be a bit commanding to civilians who cross your path. However, those who played the previous title might be confused as the controls are a bit different this time around. Here is how to shout at civilians in Payday 3.

To shout at civilians in Payday 3, you need to press the same button that you use for marking. Depending on your platform, it should be one of the following by default:

  • PC (Keyboard & mouse): Middle mouse button.
  • PlayStation and Xbox: Up on the D-Pad.

The shout action is especially effective when done against multiple civilians at once. As long as they’re in your general direction, a well-placed shout can make an entire room hit the floor. Just make sure to zip-tie them afterward if you want them to stay still. There’s no limit in the sequel, so feel free to tie everyone up. This is a necessary strategy if you’re trying to finish heists in stealth.

It’s important to note that you can only shout at them if they or everyone in the area is alerted. If you’re still in stealth, pressing the button will only allow you to mark them for your team. You might need to stand in front of them and wait for them to notice you before shouting is possible.

As rude as it is, hitting them with a melee attack can sometimes yield better results. Even in stealth, they’ll immediately fall to the floor and let you tie their hands. Shouting is still more effective against a group of civilians.
