How to Get Through the Forest Maze in Super Mario RPG

Once you first enter the Forest Maze, you’ll be greeted with the best song in the game and a pretty linear path. Along the way, you’ll see mushrooms you can collect on the ground that’ll come in handy during the upcoming boss fight. There are also multiple tree stumps that you can go into that’ll have plenty of enemies to fight if you’re low-leveled and need the experience.

Eventually, you’ll get to the “maze” part of the forest, where you’ll see Geno and have to follow him. However, it’s easy to lose him since there are a lot of enemies that can get in your way. So, if you can’t keep up with him, these are the steps you should follow when you first enter this section:

If you follow this path correctly, you’ll meet up with Geno near a save box before fighting the boss of the Forest Maze.

How to Access the Forest Maze Secret Area

However, there’s a secret area in the Forest Maze that you can reach before following Geno. In Rose Town, you can steal some items from a Toad inside his house. If you apologize and return his belongings, he’ll hint at where the secret area is in the Forest Maze. To get to the secret area, you’ll want to go to the beginning of the maze section and follow these steps (Keep in mind for these steps, you have to go off based on which way Mario is facing).

At the end of this path, there’ll be a single tree stump surrounded by many enemies. Once you enter the stump, you’ll find the hidden treasure room. Inside of it, you’ll find:

  • 3 Mushrooms
  • 1 Flower
  • 1 Frog Coin
