For those unfortunate enough to have been introduced to this insanely frustrating game, here are some tips to help raise your high score and make your Flappy Bird experience slightly less soul-crushing.

Ditch the iPhone
Life ruiner and Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen recently tweeted that the game is easier on Android than it is on iOS.
After giving myself a migraine from playing with my phone two inches away from my face, I decided to switch over my tablet. Turns out playing on a bigger screen makes dodging pipes a whole lot easier! Have an Android device? Even better. Life ruiner and Flappy Bird creator Dong Nguyen recently tweeted that the game is easier on Android than it is on iOS. The game is still rage inducing, but Flappy doesn’t fall like a bag of bricks they way iPhone users are accustomed to. Take advantage while you can though; an update that’ll level the playing field is coming soon.
Tune out distractions
- Lock yourself in your room.
- Turn off the sound.
- Switch to airplane mode.
Nothing will ruin a friendship (or your high score) like receiving a text in the middle of a Flappy Bird game. Activating airplane mode will also prevent those pesky ads from sneaking into your line of vision.
Close all other apps
Among all the other annoying things Flappy Bird does, it crashes. A lot.
To prevent this from happening right as you’re about to set a new high score, be sure to close out of any apps you have running in the background. On iOS, just double-tap the home button and swipe apps up to close them. Android users can look under their device’s app settings and select “Force Stop.”

Develop a rhythm
Is Flappy Bird flapping all over the screen? Try tapping to a rhythm. This will keep the bird steady and make it easier for you to control where he goes next. I like to use the clouds as an initial guide, bouncing the bird along the top.
Aim for the middle
As you approach your first obstacle, speed up your tapping until the bird is at the same height as the vertical center of the pipes. Once the bird is in between to two pipes, don’t jump again until the bird has reached the horizontal center. This should help you to avoid those bumping into those deadly pipe corners.
Take a break
If you’re getting a little too aggravated and have resorted to calling Flappy Bird a slur of obscene names, it might be time to take a break. Take a deep breath. Get a snack. Switch over to Candy Crush. After you’ve cleared your mind, you’ll be ready to dodge those pipes like you’ve never dodged them before!

If all else fails, cheat
If you really can’t stand to look at your single digit score any longer, hacking the game is certainly an option.
