How to Get and Use Sage’s Will in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom (TotK)

Here's our guide to help you learn about how to get and use Sage's Will in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom.

The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Sage’s Will is a special item that you can obtain in-game. Think of it as something akin to Lights of Blessing, except the boons are for your Sage Companions. Here’s our guide to help you learn about how to get and use Sage’s Will in TotK. Please be mindful that this article contains spoilers.

Where to Find Sage’s Will in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

The TotK Sage’s Will items are often found in chests in the Sky Region. More often than not, though, chests will contain an assortment of items, ranging from Zonai Charges and Zonai Devices (like Batteries) to regular weapons.

However, there are some chests that might be off the beaten path, such as inside rooms with enclosures or distant floating islands. There’s a good chance that these might contain Sage’s Will.

I recommend getting the Purah Pad Sensor+ upgrade. This is obtained from Robbie, a researcher in Lookout Landing. After completing a few tasks and quests in the Depths, he’ll head to Hateno Village to the southwest. He’ll tell you how you can get the Sensor+ installed.

Once you have that, you can take a photo of a treasure chest, then use the Sensor+ to track it. It will beep whenever there’s a chest nearby. I’ve found that this really helps if you’re trying to look for all sorts of hidden items that are normally missable.

How to Use Sage’s Will in TotK

The Tears of the Kingdom Sage’s Will items cannot be used one at a time. You actually need four of these (again, they’re like Blessings of Light).

Once you have four, visit any Goddess Statue. You’ll see an option that “makes your bond stronger” with any Sage Companion. This particular buff will only increase their offensive capabilities and the damage that they deal with their skills.

Best Sages to Pick in Tears of the Kingdom

In terms of priorities, I suggest picking Riju or Mineru.

  • Riju has a devastating Lightning Strike ability that’s triggered by shooting an arrow at a target, but it’s also quite a hassle to chase her down in case she’s engaged in melee.
  • Mineru, meanwhile, is a large robot construct that you can ride.

The Mineru Construct can have two weapon attachments, as well as a back device that can help with mobility. The main downside is that Link is often vulnerable to faster/multi-directional enemy attacks when riding Mineru.

Ultimately, how to use the Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom Sage’s Will is entirely up to you. We probably won’t ask you to buff Tulin, given that his DPS is pathetic. But, hey, if you like the Birdboy so much, go ahead and boost his capabilities. In any case, for tips and tricks, head over to our Zelda TotK guides hub.
