Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom — How to Get Sunset Fireflies in TotK

When the sun sets over the lands of Hyrule in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, glowing green bugs called Sunset Fireflies come out and light up dark, wooded areas. However, you may be wondering how to get TotK Sunset Fireflies because they can be tricky to find. If you’re like me and working through Lasli’s By Firefly’s Light side quest, you need to find some. Here’s where to find and catch Tears of the Kingdom Sunset Fireflies.

Where to Find Sunset Fireflies in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom

You can find Sunset Fireflies in various wooded regions across the Surface of Hyrule, but I found the most abundant area to be Pagos and Finra Woods (0663, -3070, 0021). These forests are directly north of Highland Stable (0518, -3430, 0046), where you can even buy Sunset Fireflies from Beetle for 10 Rupees each. He only sells them at this location. 

If you’re collecting TotK Sunset Fireflis for the By Firefly’s Light quest, you can find some conveniently located in Bubinga Forest (1948, -2151, 0017). However, I didn’t see as many in this location, so you might spend a little more time searching. The forest is directly south of Kakariko Village, and next to Dueling Peaks Stable.

How to Catch TotK Sunset Fireflies

To catch Tears of the Kingdom Sunset Fireflies, you’ll need to go searching at nighttime. You can build a fire or sit by a cooking station and select the option to wait until night. To catch a Sunset Firefly, you’ll have to crouch and sneak up on them because they’ll fly away if they detect your presence.

Once you’re able to catch a Sunset Firefly, a prompt will appear on your screen to take it, so wait until you see it appear to move abruptly. You can increase your odds of sneaking by wearing stealth-enhanced gear (like the Stealth armor from Kakariko Village), drinking a stealth-enhancing potion, or eating stealth-enhanced foods.
