Sea of Thieves: How to Unlock the Secret Waters Commendation

There are secret paths hidden in the new Sea of Thieves: A Pirates Life update to get the Secret Waters Commendation, and we will show you where to find them.

Commendations in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life unlock in a variety of ways. Some are mostly automatic, unlocking as you play the game, and some are not. One befuddling one lies in the Secret Waters Commendation. This requires you to, with no prompt, press the right button at the correct, seemingly random time. When/where/how do you do that? Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered.

How to Unlock the Secret Waters Commendation in Sea of Thieves

This Commendation is found during the Dark Brethren Tall Tale. This is the fourth of the A Pirate’s Life Tall Tales, and requires that you have completed the other three before attempting it.

Heading to Castaway Island in Sea of Thieves.

Head to the Castaway on any outpost, and vote to launch the Tall Tale. You will be sent far to the North, to assault the spore of the Dark Brethren.

Early in the Tall Tale your friend Jack Sparrow will open a pair of doors for you. Proceed through the next few rooms, and eventually you will come to a long ladder, with Jack waiting at the top.

Jack will take a backwards tumble down a waterslide. You need to follow him.

Follow Jack Sparrow for the Secret Waters Commendation.

Take a second to collect yourself before you jump in. The waterslide will automatically carry you to the bottom to continue this Tall Tale. However, you do have some control of the route you take.

The path of the waterslide will split, and you can steer left or right (using the left thumbstick on controller, or the A and D keys on keyboard) into these side paths.

As soon as you enter the waterslide and start your descent, hold one of the two directions, either left or right. Make sure you hold it for the entire ride to the bottom.

This will pull you through one of the side paths on the waterslide which satisfies the conditions to award you the Secret Waters Commendation.

Down the water slide and to the Secret Waters Commendation.

Once you get to the bottom of the slide you can finish the Tall Tale for a nice bit of gold, or quit. If you do decide you keep going forward then you have the opportunity to earn the Dark Desires Commendation, which takes place near the end of the Tall Tale.

Secret Waters is just one of many Commendations you can earn in Sea of Thieves: A Pirate’s Life.
