To pull the Master Sword from the Light Dragon’s head, you need a full second wheel or 5 Stamina Vessels/20 Shrines worth of upgrades.

How to Pull the Master Sword from the Light Dragon’s Head

Once you have the required Stamina, get back on the Light Dragon’s head. Then hold the A button as she tries to shake you off. Don’t worry if it looks like you’re going to run out of Stamina. You’ll retrieve the Master Sword and get a sweet cutscene for your troubles.

How to Respec Stamina if You Don’t Have Enough

If you’ve completed the requisite number of Shrines but haven’t invested in Stamina enough, don’t worry. After you beat one of the Sage Dungeons, you’ll gain access to a passageway in the Emergency Shelter of Lookout Landing. This leads to the Horned God statue. Here, you can trade Hearts for Stamina upgrades whenever you like.

There are 151 total Shrines scattered across Tears of the Kingdom. While the map is large, I personally found it isn’t too hard to find 20 Shrines. I found that to be truer the more Shrines I complete and the more Skyview Towers I unlocked, since fast travel helps quite a bit.

Some Shrines, especially the ones where you need to fight Flux Constructs, don’t have any requirements beyond the task you completed to unlock it.

That’s how much stamina is required for the Master Sword in Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. If you’re looking for help with some of the Shrines in the game, we’ve covered plenty of solutions. There’s how to complete the Built to Carry, Unlit Blessing, and Building Blocks Shrines and many others in our TotK guides hub.
