There are tons of good weapons in Elden Ring, but one of the best you can find in the mid-game is the Sword of Night and Flame. It’s a powerful weapon for those with high enough intelligence and faith to wield it, and the Sword of Night and Flame provides access to two spells without taking up valuable memory slots.
Actually finding the location of the Sword of Night and Flame isn’t all that hard. Navigating the enemies in your path will be the real test. This Elden Ring guide will walk you through how to find the Sword of Night and Flame in Caria Manor.
How to Find the Sword of Night and Flame Location in Elden Ring
The Sword of Night and Flame can be found in Caria Manor in extreme northwestern Liurnia of the Lakes. You’ll must first defeat Margit, the Fell Omen and Godrick the Grafted to gain access to this larger area above Limgrave. Once you do, make your way to the far western side of Liurnia and north up the coastal road. You could also venture through the main part of Liurnia, passing Raya Lucaria Academy and then west from Sorceror’s Isle.
Either way, be wary of the relatively high-level enemies here if you’ve not leveled your stats into the mid- to high-30s or so (depending on your build and skill). As you approach Caria Manor, large magic attacks will hit the main road, so stay to the left as you approach the Site of Grace at the Main Gate.
Your first step to the Sword of Night and Flame begins at the Manor Gate Site of Grace. Turn left just past the gate, and go into the forest. Watch for the Giant Hand in the ground to the right of the cliffs, and go up the rocks along the Manor wall (on the left).
At the top of the rocks, turn right, and go underneath the stone archway. Stay left along the wall until the ground starts to rise; there is a Giant Hand hidden in the ground along the wall, so flush out to the right a bit.
You’ll see more Hands ahead and a stone stairwell that rises toward the Manor on the left. Run over, and go up the stairwell into the Manor. Go up the wooden stairs on the right side of the room, then go left and up one more set of stairs. You’ll be in a chapel with a Site of Grace.
Rest, then exit the chapel through the doorway by the Site of Grace. You’re halfway to the Sword of Night and Flame.
Note: there are more than a dozen Blue Phantoms soldiers that spawn around the towers and bridges ahead. They can wield magic, and will appear in front of you, behind you, and sometimes directly on top of you.
With that in mind, go straight across the bridge (carefully) to Tower 1. Then follow the path left over another bridge to Tower 2, then right over yet another bridge to Tower 3.
Look over the left corner at Tower 3 (facing northwest), and jump down to the roof below. Go straight, and drop down to the next roof. There is a hole and a ladder leading down. Descend the ladder.
At the bottom, turn around, and you’ll see stacks of books and crates of crystals everywhere. There is a chest in the left-side corner ahead of you (across from the door) with a chest. The Sword of Night and Flame is inside it.
Sword of Night and Flame Passives & Abilities
The Sword of Night and Flame does not have any default passive effects, as the Uchigatana has Blood Loss. You also cannot add Ashes of War to it. However, it does provide Physical, Magic, and Fire damage. As you upgrade the Sword of Night and Flame it begins to further scale with INT and FAITH at +3, moving from D to C.
The big draw of the Sword of Night and Flame is the Night-and-Flame Stance skill ability. It allows you to cast Comet Azure, one of the better spells in Elden Ring, as well as a potent flame attack, without using memory slots for sorceries or incantations.
- A light attack with the Sword of Night and Flame casts Comet Azure for 19 FP. Your character raises the Sword of Night and Flame by their head, then lunges forward with it, shooting out a spear of magic directly in front of you. Note: this spell does not take elevation into account even when locked-on.
- A heavy attack with the Sword of Night and Flame performs a sweeping flame attack for 23 FP. Your character swings the sword above their head and then downward in an arc, with the flame providing a small explosion at the end. Think of this as a 180-degree AoE of sorts.
Wondering how to use Night-and-Flame Stance with the Sword of Night and Flame? Hold L2/RT, then press R1/RB for the light/slashing attack and R2/RT for the heavy overhead attack. Note, the inputs and attacks are the same whether wielding the Sword of Night and Flame single-hand or two-hand.
