If your group of friends is anything like mine, getting them all to both agree to and pay for a particular game is harder than herding feral cats. Maybe you're in a similar situation or maybe you're just on the prowl for some good multiplayer games to play in Steam Remote Play. Whatever the case, we've compiled a sizable list to help you out.

The good thing about Remote Play is that only one player in the group needs to own the game; the rest can try it out for free — at least in its current beta period.

Let's choo choo on through, and hopefully, find you and your friend(s) a game you can play.

Terraria

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

You'll see this game mentioned on just about every list of co-op games. This co-op sandbox-adventure has loads of content for any group of friends to go to town on. Terraria has stayed on the top played Steam games for 7 years for good reason.

Grim Dawn

Price: $24.99
Steam Store link

If you're looking to scratch your ARPG itch, you could do a lot worse than Grim Dawn. Even without the expansion, you can find dozens of hours of whackin' and lootin' in Grim Dawn. If you're not too keen on its darker aesthetic but do want an ARPG, the next option may be more down your alley.

Torchlight 2

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

It may be older than Grim Dawn, but Torchlight 2 still has a lot of staying power if you've never given the game a chance. There is more content to be found in Grim Dawn but Torchlight 2 has a robust array of mods available, including content, quality of life, and classes. This is still a solid buy today in 2018, and it can be modded for up to 8-player multiplayer.

Castle Crashers

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Another staple co-op game sure to be on pretty much every co-op list, Castle Crashers is the poster boy for co-op beat'em ups. This is an easy one for all ages and kill levels to get into and have fun with.

BattleBlock Theater

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Another game from The Behemoth, the same studio behind Castle Crashers. BattleBlock Theater's campaign is completely co-op and it also features a healthy selection of hectic PvP modes, for when you want to prove your better than your friends once and for all.

Rocket League

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

Before you say, "Ugh, no. Too mainstream," take a breath and consider Rocket League as a co-op game with a low barrier of entry and a whole lot of speed. Rocket League may not be your first choice, but it's an easy game to get a group of people to agree to hop onto for a quick round.

Risk of Rain

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

Risk of Rain is a co-op game with an unquenchable bloodlust. Though not for everyone due to its extreme difficulty, Risk of Rain is an easy buy for roguelite fans or groups of friends who hate life. It's a hard game and it will knock you down a peg with ease, whether you've got 1 hour or 300 hours worth of gameplay logged.

Risk of Rain 2 is pretty good, too. It's currently $19.99 on Steam

Beat Hazard

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

This one always seems to slip through the cracks since it's been blessing Steam with its presence for eight years now, but despite its age, Beat Hazard continues to be a recommended purchase for co-op play, providing you and your friend(s) are good at shmups. Beat Hazard lets you use your own music or one of many radio stations to generate enemies, which is what makes this one so unique.

Ultimate Chicken Horse

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Playing this game with a group of friends is an exercise in sadism. You and up to three other friends will be tasked with creating and completing the stages in Ultimate Chicken Horse, and you can bet at least one (or even all) of you will make them nearly impossible to beat, in the name of being the better platformer player. Ridiculously fun and honestly not as enraging as it sounds.

Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

An outlier among the other games in this collection, Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes only requires one person to buy the game. There's a reason for that: Only one player is allowed to see the screen at a time, so only one can directly defuse the bomb. The other players must tell the defuser what to do based on the instructions in the manual.

If it sounds a little convoluted, that's because it is by design. Can you and your friends defuse a bomb? Maybe, maybe not. But you can certainly yell at each other trying.

Don't Starve Together

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Don't Starve has stood as one of the more accessible survival games over the years, and the multiplayer expansion Don't Starve Together may be an even more enjoyable game than the base with the Reign of Giants expansion. Together contains both, plus the ability to die in the forest with your friends. If  as in my case — you tried the original game but didn't enjoy it much, you may still find this fun.

Left 4 Dead 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

You may be dissuaded from picking Left 4 Dead 2 up based on its age. It's been out for 11 years now, it seems like everyone's been through the game. Why bother? If you haven't played it yet, this is your reminder to pick up L4D2 to play with your friends. It's still fun to this day, but it's best played with friends. Any community for a decade-old game is bound to be elitist and this game is no exception.

PAYDAY 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

If you don't play PAYDAY 2, it's possible the only thing you've heard about it was the hubbub about microtransactions a few years back. It's been a long time since then though, and the game is a solid heister. You don't need to play the first game to dive right into this one and, provided your group can cooperate, there are hours upon hours of heists for you to tackle.

Dungeon of The Endless

Price: $11.99
Steam Store link

How about something a little different? Amplitude's Endless universe has expanded this way and that, with "that" being Dungeon of the Endless, a pseudo-tower defense roguelike. In this, players must hoard resources and expand based on the ever-increasing threats of the depth of the dungeon. A single round in this game can take several hours and it is very hard, but if your group's into roguelikes you could do a lot worse.

Borderlands 2

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

Borderlands 2 is another old staple that still holds up today, especially multiplayer. Pushing through this game with friends is satisfying as firefights are intense and the weapon system is a ARPG-style lootfest. Not many games age as well as this one -- you can come back years later and still have a ton of fun.

Golf With Your Friends

Price: $7.99
Steam Store link

If you just want a game to pay a little attention to while chatting, this is an easy choice. Golf With Your Friends isn't exactly rolling in content variety and only contains 7 levels with 18 holes, but things are kept fresh through golf ball shapes and game modes. A very easy game to just sit back and play while having a couple beers and a laugh.

Human: Fall Flat

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

How about something a little less-in-your-face about its silliness? We've got some pretty quirky games listed here, but they're all a bit more obvious about it than the cooperative physics-based puzzle solving found in Human: Fall Flat. The one downside here is that there are not a lot of stages, but it's a good deal at this price.

Project Zomboid

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

Don't let this game's graphics and the year it entered Steam Early Access fool you: Project Zomboid is a fleshed-out survival sandbox with hundreds of potential hours of gameplay, with continued support from its developer as it slowly shambles toward full release. If you and your group can accept the high learning curve, you can have a great time with this game.

Portal 2

Price: $9.99
Steam Store link

The Portal games are famous for a lot of reasons and one of those reasons is (Spoilers!) the stellar co-op campaign. If you haven't played Portal 2 and you want a game to play with a friend, you may as well throw the $2 at Valve and see what all the hubbub is about.

Barony

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

An other roguelike to add to the pile, Barony is the closest to a traditional roguelike of any of the games listed here. It looks old, it feels old, and it plays like an old game. That's perfectly fine: You'll be hard-pressed to find another game that takes the classic roguelike formula, turns it 3D and realtime, and allows for online co-op. This one's pretty niche but you're in for a good time if you're comfortable with classic roguelikes.

Endless Legend

Price: $29.99
Steam Store link

Though Endless Space is currently also on sale, I would recommend Endless Legend over it for its similarities to the Civilization series and its overall fun factor. This is a more traditional-style 4X game. Expand, form alliances, wage wars -- it's up to you. A worthy strategy addition to most gaming groups on a budget.

Resident Evil 5

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

You don't hear much about Resident Evil 5 or 6 for a few reasons, but none of those reasons equate to them not being fun with friends. Resident Evil 5 is often overlooked in favor of 6 for co-op play because it retains the semi-tank controls found in its predecessor, but if you and a friend can adjust to that control style this is an intense and worthwhile co-op action game.

Resident Evil 6

Price: $29.99
Steam Store link

Like its predecessor, Resident Evil 6 is best played with a friend. Unlike its predecessor, it's got more modern, fluid controls and a whole lot of QTEs. This one is over-the-top in about every regard, to the extent I can't help but find it silly each playthrough. If you like classic Resi games, go with 5. If you can't deal with the antiquated controls, go with 6. The decision is as simple as that.

7 Days to Die

Price: $24.99
Steam Store link

One of the first titles in the survival game wave that paved the way for games such as Rust and ARK: Survival Evolved, 7 Days to Die still stands as one of the most played games on Steam and is just as fun now as when it came out. As with the two mentioned, 7 Days to Die allows you a great deal of freedom in your efforts to survive. Break, use, and do whatever you want to ensure your survival in a world overrun by over 50 types of zombies.

Orcs Must Die! 2

Price: $14.99
Steam Store link

The original Orcs Must Die! set off a chain reaction of action-tower defense clones, some good and some bad, but none really hold up to the sequel. Orcs Must Die! 2 is an improvement over the first game in almost every way, and has the added bonus of online multiplayer. It's easy to get into, easy to wrap your head around, and easy to spend too many hours in.

Tabletop Simulator

Price: $19.99
Steam Store link

This is a bit of a strange one since Tabletop Simulator itself isn't a game, but a mini-platform for tabletop gaming. The amount of games available via Tabletop Simulator are nearly endless, making this a fantastic purchase for any static group of friends who have trouble deciding on what to play or want to play board games without having to pick up after themselves.

---

These are definitely not all of the co-op games you can get for relatively cheap on Steam, but these are some I can personally recommend. I hope you've found at least one game you find worthy of your Steam library.

Conclusion

\n

Like few consoles before it, the Xbox 360 managed to redefine gaming to a growing generation of gamers. It did the unfathomable — the impossible. It managed to completely change the way games were meant to be played.

\n

It wasn't just about the single player experience anymore. The Xbox 360 successfully connected us all to one another. It was the first console that really pioneered the multiplayer experience.

\n

And with it came:

\n
    \n
  • online achievements
  • \n
  • virtual avatars
  • \n
  • a direct messaging system
  • \n
  • and an online store
  • \n
\n

It's a sad day indeed, when one of the generation's most defining consoles comes to an end. But it was bound to happen eventually. The 360's legacy will live on in the future consoles that follow.

\n

Rest in peace, Xbox 360. You'll be missed.

Halo 3

\n

And now we come to the "must-have" out of all "must-haves." The epitome of everything Microsoft and Xbox 360. The game that we all know and love — Halo 3.

\n

The Halo series is arguably Microsoft's most successful video game series. And it makes sense. The setting is amazing, the story is rich, and Master Chief is a total-badass as usual. Halo 3 managed to capture everything we loved about the Halo series and condense it all into one game.

\n
It looked great, it played amazing, and it was fun, both online and offline.
\n

From its memorable multiplayer experiences to its interesting and rich single player storyline, Halo 3 continues to represent everything great the Xbox 360 had to offer.

\n

The beauty of Halo 3 is that we can all relate to it.

\n

We all have that one game that just made a huge impact on our lives. And to some, Halo 3 is that game.

\n

\n

Just looking at the picture brings back memories of the better times...

\n

While I did enjoy the single-player experience, playing with online was the big selling point. I remember spending countless hours just messing around in custom lobbies -- connecting with friends and new people, all over some random game. Even now, when I've played more recent and more modern online games, none are able to capture the exact feel and uniqueness present in Halo 3.

\n

Xbox Live servers are still up, and if anything, the multiplayer experience is reason enough to pick it up.

\n

And if it isn't, rest assured that you'll be following Chief in one of the most compelling stories you've experience. It ties in some of the loose questions so perfectly. It's why it's the number one exclusive.

Forza Horizon 2

\n

Imagine a life where you're not held back by money. You can buy whatever car you want, customize it, and take it out for a spin with your friends.

\n

That's your life in Forza Horizon 2.

\n

The game is just amazing in every single way.

\n
    \n
  • First off, it's visually appealing. The graphics are nothing short of amazing. Every visual, every particle effect is just so crisp and nice.
  • \n
  • Second, the level of customization is insane. You're free to do whatever you want with your car. You want to keep it tuned to stock standards? Go ahead. Do you want to create a complete eye-sore? Be my guest.
  • \n
  • Third, it's open world. You can take your car from one end of the map to the next, or you can spawn directly onto key locations on the map. The map is, quite literally, your playground.
  • \n
\n

\n

I'm not a fan of the car, but the graphics are something else.

\n
    \n
  • Fourth and lastly, you can cruise alongside friends. It takes racing to a new level. It's all fun and games when you're racing on the track, but things get a bit more personal — and intense — when you hand-build the car yourself.
  • \n
\n

I spent my days grinding away on Trackmania and Need for Speed. I thought Burnout Paradise was the ultimate open-world car game, but I was wrong. I have since accepted Forza Horizon 2 as my lord and savior, the ultimate car game that is second to none. Thank you Turn 10 Studios.

\n

Thank you.

Gears of War 3

\n

Now we've come to the "big boy" exclusives. First up comes a game that needs no introduction, a game centered around humanity's last struggle against a horde of mutant humanoid creatures -- Gears of War 3.

\n

Met with critical acclaim upon release, Gears of War 3 successfully wraps up one of the Xbox 360's most recognized series. The game itself brings immersive action and stunning visuals. Seriously, the game looks amazing.

\n

\n

Most games can learn a thing or two from these armor sets.

\n

And one of the most defining elements was its multiplayer. While not as huge as another noteworthy Xbox exclusive, the game's multiplayer experience was indeed fun. I remember the first time I found a Boomshot. I never put the game down after that.

\n

It's stunning graphics, immersive combat, and fun multiplayer make this one of the top exclusive titles.

"},{"image":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,e_sharpen:150,f_auto,fl_lossy,h_360,q_80,w_640/v1/gameskinnyc/f/a/b/fable2new1-a70ab.jpg","thumb":"http://res.cloudinary.com/lmn/image/upload/c_limit,e_sharpen:150,f_auto,fl_lossy,h_85,q_80,w_97/v1/gameskinnyc/f/a/b/fable2new1-a70ab.jpg","type":"slide","id":"113016","description":"

Fable 2

\n

Fable 2 is an action role-playing game developed by Lionhead Studios. Players will take control of the Hero of Bowerstone, set on a journey to prevent an evil lord from controlling the Spire.

\n

First things first — which one is better, Fable or Fable 2? It's an age-old debate, and I'm going to end it today.

\n

Fable 2 is better, and here's why it's a must-have exclusive:

\n
    \n
  • a lot more content than the previous game. Fable 1 did not have as much content as this one did.
  • \n
  • a better story-line. Fable 1's story was very basic and linear. If you wanted a more compelling narrative with interesting character, Fable 2 is the game you should get.
  • \n
  • better graphics. The visuals are stunning in Fable 2. While I'm a strong advocate against using graphics as a sole reason to buy a game, you can't argue with a comparison shot.
  • \n
  • challenging. If you're more interested in challenging combat, the second one is for you.
  • \n
\n

\n

Would you look at that? It's gorgeous.

\n

Fable 2 is a game that every proud Xbox owner should have in their collection. The game will take you on a cute and whimsical storyline — the likes of which you've never seen before.

Tales of Vesperia

\n

Japanese RPGs are some of the greatest games you'll ever play. The music, the gameplay, and the story-line — all of these characteristics are typical of a well-developed JRPG, and make western games pale in comparison.

\n

Tales of Vesperia is one of the games that has it all.

\n

Developed by Namco Tales Studio, Tales of Vesperia features:

\n
    \n
  • an extremely memorable soundtrack.
  • \n
  • a refreshing combat system.
  • \n
  • and one of the best stories that I've ever experienced.
  • \n
\n

\n

The combat is very dynamic. You're not just staying in one place the whole time.

\n

One of the hardest parts about playing a Japanese RPGs is the appeal. Sometimes, it just doesn't appeal to gamers. Luckily, Tales of Vesperia does it's best to appeal to the western market. It is the first game of the series to offer complete dialogue in English, and feature elements of western RPGs.

\n

It's one of the games every Xbox 360 owner should buy. You won't regret it.

Halo Wars

\n

Because it was completely different from the series' previous installments, the announcement of Halo Wars initially worried some people. Traditionally, it would be a bit weird to find a real-time strategy game on a console. The genre just doesn't work out like it does on a PC. Surprisingly, Halo Wars did.

\n

I'd go as far as to say that Halo Wars is the best RTS game available for a console.

\n

\n

Now, that's an angle I know you haven't seen before.

\n

Ensemble Studios succeeded in creating a game that "felt at home on the console." Halo Wars had solid gameplay, responsive controls, and an entertaining story-line. The game even brings its very own, epic Halo soundtrack.

\n

It's both visually appealing and immersive, and it paints the Halo Universe in a way that we haven't seen it before. All in all, a solid choice.

Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2

\n

It's funny. Geometry Wars was originally developed as a small project to test out the 360's controller, and now, it turned out to be one of the most addicting games available.

\n

The core concept is simple. Players control space ships and are tasked with avoiding violent polygons hurling towards them. They use the left analog stick to move, and the right to shoot. The goal is to survive for as long as you possibly can.

\n

However, it's not the concept that makes this game stand apart from others, it's how polished it is. Geometry Wars was a decent title, but Bizarre Creations improved all the right areas in Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2.

\n

\n

Take that you filthy abhorrent shapes!

\n
    \n
  • The movement and controls felt so fluid. It just felt "right" in your hands.
  • \n
  • The camera followed you around perfectly. For a game that's so fast-paced and intense, camera placement is crucial.
  • \n
  • The development team included a whole array of game modes. This is for players, like me, who ever got bored of the standard game mode. There was a whopping selection to choose from.
  • \n
\n

Currently, Geometry Wars: Retro Evolved 2 holds the title as "The Best Xbox Live Arcade Game," and while I'm not going to argue with that, I think a better — and more fitting title — would be, the "Best Stress Reliever."

\n

Viva Piñata

\n

Do not be fooled by its childish visuals. Though it initially looks like it caters specifically to kids, Viva Piñata can be a great and memorable experience if you're willing to give it a try.

\n

The game starts with you constructing a farm on an island. As you develop and improve your farm, you soon find the island's fluffy inhabitants flocking to you. The goal of the game is simple: collect as many pinatas as you can.

\n
Essentially, it's Neko Atsume: Cat Collector on steroids.
\n

One of the best things about this game is the gameplay. It's not an ordinary simulator. You have to cater and watch over the piñatas who come to your farm. They can fight, they can get angry, and some piñatas are so dang picky that obtaining them is near impossible.

\n
And the best part about it?
\n

There are over 70 unique piñatas to discover. Their uniqueness and individuality is so refreshing that it's incredibly satisfying when you do discover one. People of all ages can enjoy collecting them.

\n

Viva Pinata

\n

A great person once said, "It's so fluffy, I just might die."

Viva Piñata stands as one of those, "hit or miss" type of games. Some will enjoy it, some won't. But it's worth picking up if you ever get the chance. You may be kidding yourself from a great experience otherwise.

Castle Crashers

\n

What's a game driven only by the primal desire to hack and slash your way through enemies? A game void of meaningful content and dialogue, but filled to the brim with action-packed adventures and comical sword-play?

\n

Well, the most appropriate answer to that question would be Castle Crashers.

\n
It's nothing short of the ultimate "beat 'em up."
\n

Created by Dan Paladin and Tom Fulp, Castle Crashers closely resembles a modernized 2D arcade game.

\n

If you're looking for a game to kill some time, look no further than this.

\n

Castle Crashers

\n

The environment isn't the only thing visually appealing, look at that monster!

\n

There's no dialogue, and there's barely even a story. Yet still, the action is enough to keep your attention for a good while. Mindless killing alongside friends and family? Come on, what's not to love about that?

Jade Empire

\n

When you ask someone to name a game made by BioWare, they'll typically jump out and recite one of the usual big three: Knights of the Old Republic, Mass Effect, or Dragon Age. Very few will mention titles like Neverwinter Nights or Baldur's Gate, and even fewer are familiar with Jade Empirea game that I feel deserves more recognition than it was given.

\n

Released in 2005, Jade Empire is a role-playing game that offers players a glimpse into the eastern world. The game itself takes place in ancient China, and it features:

\n
    \n
  • a compelling narrative.
  • \n
  • an interesting and memorable cast of companions.
  • \n
  • and a fun, albeit clunky, combat system.
  • \n
\n

\n

For its time, the game has aged pretty well.

\n

If you're a fan of role-playing games,  it's worth going back and giving Jade Empire a shot. Just don't set your expectations too high. In the end,  it still has its flaws. Regardless, I consider it a classic RPG, definitely worthy enough to stand alongside BioWare's other great works.

Today is a huge moment for all of us.

\n

Microsoft just announced their plans to retire the Xbox 360. As of now, support for Xbox Live services and servers will continue, but the production of additional console units will come to a permanent stop.

\n

It's a bit sad. Last November marked the console's ten year anniversary, and since it was released, it has had a huge impact on gamers everywhere. As a tribute to the console's long and enduring legacy, I have compiled a list of the top Xbox exclusives that I have personally enjoyed. The list will be composed of some of the best games the console has to offer.

\n

So, if you're looking to pick up an Xbox 360 while supplies last, consider the following titles your "top priority" to play on it.

Top 5 PC co-op games https://www.gameskinny.com/qnigo/top-5-pc-co-op-games https://www.gameskinny.com/qnigo/top-5-pc-co-op-games Tue, 17 Nov 2015 03:33:39 -0500 Andrea Koenig

A common issue that plagues friends across the gaming community is the question what should we play? Video games are great, but sometimes they're even better than friends. Whether you're a fan of survival, RPG, puzzles, or shooters, chances are you'll be able to share this fun with a friend.

Here are some of the best games you can play in co-op with friends on the PC.

1. Portal 2

This comedic sci-fi puzzle adventure is definitely one that gamers can't overlook. As if the single-player storyline wasn't witty or fun enough, they created a co-op mode to share the fun with a friend.

Solve puzzles with your portal guns and try not to get each other killed as you "compete" for GLaDOS' approval. It's all in the name of science.

Portal 2 is available on Steam for $19.99. Or buy the 2-pack and send the other copy to a friend for $34.98

2. Castle Crashers

Optimized for up to 4 players and cross-platform playing, this game is also a great co-op experience. Choose which character you want (by their armor color or their magical perks associated with them) and set off on a beat-em-up indie adventure.

This game can be cute and terrifying all at once, offers some intense bosses, sweet loot, and quirky additional features that will have you and your friends having a great time.

Get Castle Crashers on Steam for $14.99. Or get a 4-pack for you and your friends at $44.97.

3. Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes

This game offers standard computer support as well as Virtual Reality console support. The recent release got overwhelmingly positive reviews across the board for its indie puzzle bomb-diffusing simulation.

Have one friend be the bomb diffuser, and the other friend be the "expert" with the answers to solving all the puzzles. Neither side can see what the other has, making simple puzzle solving all about communication.

Before there's an explosion joke, grab it on Steam for $14.99.

4. Don't Starve Together

If the single player wasn't difficult enough, try having to get enough food and supplies to last for more than one person. This game is available to as many players as you can fit in a server, and forces you to face horrible beasts, seasons, and everything in between.

Play as all characters (no need to unlock them) and set off on your adventure. Build bases, get supplies, fight enemies, brave the elements, and ultimately, don't starve. Together.

Get your hands on this Early Access game on Steam, with 2-packs and Bundle packages to get extra copies for friends.

5. Left 4 Dead (and Left 4 Dead 2)

There's nothing more multiplayer or co-op than working together against the zombie apocalypse. Get your hands on some pistols, a grenade launcher, chainsaw, or other weapon of choice (hey, maybe it's an electric guitar, we don't judge). Now, smash to the next safe-room until help arrives.

Enjoy some near-death banter with multiple maps and levels from the southern swamps to theme parks. Even a rock concert.

Get the Left 4 Dead Bundle (includes both Left 4 Dead and Left 4 Dead 2 for all 8 characters and their maps) on Steam for $29.99.

Have a PC game that you and your friends really enjoy playing with multiplayer co-op options? Drop some names in the comments.

Castle Crashers "Barbarian Makeover" HD update and new minigame now live https://www.gameskinny.com/hjv1q/castle-crashers-barbarian-makeover-hd-update-and-new-minigame-now-live https://www.gameskinny.com/hjv1q/castle-crashers-barbarian-makeover-hd-update-and-new-minigame-now-live Sat, 17 Oct 2015 15:58:58 -0400 James Farmer

It looks like someone is getting a makeover. The multi-platform Castle Crashers has just released their new update, "Barbarian Makeover". This update comes right after developer The Behemoth launched the game for the Xbox One, and the added features bring other versions of the game up to speed.

From the update notes, there are plenty of new features, like:

  • New mini game: "Back Off Barbarian"
  • Uncapped frame rate (FPS)
  • Ultra mode: High quality textures
  • Updates to UI flow
  • Russian language support added
  • General bug fixes and improvements

The new mini game, "Back Off Barbarian", has replaced the original Steam mini game, "All You Can Quaff". Additionally, the update improves on textures. The update notes states that the "mode will not be on by default. Players must go to the Game Settings menu and manually toggle it on."

These new features will certainly give a face-lift and improvement to a game that came out in 2008. Castle Crashers: "Barbarian Makeover" is out now.

Castle Crashers Remastered coming soon to Xbox One, less soon to PC https://www.gameskinny.com/8w98l/castle-crashers-remastered-coming-soon-to-xbox-one-less-soon-to-pc https://www.gameskinny.com/8w98l/castle-crashers-remastered-coming-soon-to-xbox-one-less-soon-to-pc Sat, 05 Sep 2015 13:06:05 -0400 Clint Pereira

Castle Crashers Remastered will be available on Xbox one on September 9th. The full game, normally $15, will be free for anyone who already owns the original version of Castle Crashers on their Xbox 360. The Behemoth has also stated on their blog that they are planning to release a Steam version, for which development will begin "later this year."

The game will feature a better framerate, larger textures, and a new minigame called "Back Off Barbarian".

"Back off Barbarian" is a rhythm strategy game where the button you press to move will change each turn. The game will feature cooperative play in which players can draw aggro and bait the enemies around the board.

The free upgrade on Xbox One is a limited-time offer ending on September 20th. If you miss the deadline for the free version, there will still be a loyalty discount starting on the 21st that will net you the Remastered version for only $5.

No word on whether the Steam version will get the same free offer or $5 loyalty discount, but we can always keep our fingers crossed.

Game 4 Has a Name and a Trailer https://www.gameskinny.com/t0qdg/game-4-has-a-name-and-a-trailer https://www.gameskinny.com/t0qdg/game-4-has-a-name-and-a-trailer Fri, 28 Aug 2015 21:01:22 -0400 Anthony Jondreau

The fourth title from developer The Behemoth had, to this point, been title "Game 4," straight and to the point. The company has finally gotten around designating a proper namePit People. The next release from the independent company takes a signficant genre turn from its predecessors, but promises to have the same stylistic insanity, if the recently released trailer is to be believed.

Unlike the run-and-gun Alien Hominid and platforming Castle Crashers and BattleBlock TheaterPit People will be turn-based, emphasizing strategy over frantic gameplay. Well, that's not entirely true. Frantic gameplay is a Behemoth trademark, and it's not going anywhere, even in a turn-based environment.

The new trailer reveals a world in which absurdity and anachronisms run rampant. The game takes place in an "apocalyptic wonderland," which seems like the perfect descriptor. Uzis and swords find their way to the same battlefield, along the giant green blobs falling from the sky (more on that in a second).

Will Stamper, who was also involved in BattleBlock Theater, returns to narrate. He's both insufferable and a source of comic relief. Your characters can hear him, and he will react to your actions. He's omnipresent, but not omnipotent, and he adds another absurd element to a game that threatens to redefine the word. He may or may not have something to do with the falling space bear that's on a collision course with the planet, in the process drenching it with his green blood.

A release date has not been announced, but co-op and 2v2 multiplayer will also be available. It might not be a marquee title, but it's one to keep an eye out for when it comes out on Xbox One and Steam.

Ikaruga

\n

Ikaruga is shoot 'em by Treasure for the PC, Dreamcast (Japan), Nintendo GameCube, and Xbox 360.

\n

In the nation of Horai, their leader discovered the Ubusunagami Okinokai (Power of the Gods) gaining great power. Calling themselves "The Divine Ones," begins conquering nations until they are challenged by those longing for peace.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Ikaruga's combat system is just mind-blowing. It's a polarity mechanic where only the opposite polarity can destroy the enemy. This constant "flipping" while maneuvering your ship, the "Ikaruga," had me on my toes.  It is one of the best shooters I have ever played.

\n

Verdict

\n

As previously stated, cult games are games that were not widely successful, but maintained a strong fan following. Some of the games here weren't always hits at launch and some even gained their 'AAA' status afterwards. Others can be successful, critically acclaimed, but overshadowed by others. What deems a game as "cult" varies from gamer to gamer and that's okay. It is great to see how gamers impact this industry.

\n

What did you think of our list? What games would you add? List in the comments.

Killing Floor

\n

Killing Floor is a cooperative zombie, horror, survival FPS by Tripwire Interactive for PC.

\n

Set in London, England, the Horzine Biotech, a biotechnology company, conducts military experiments involving mass cloning and genetic manipulation. During the process things go very badly and the human subjects begin to exhibit horrific mutations, disfigurement, becoming hostile, and eventually overrun the internal security forces. They escape and begin overrunning the city of London.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Where do I begin? Killing Floor has the most realistic weapons of any game I have ever played and I am a gun owner. The gameplay never gets boring no matter how much you play. This isn't a simple zombie survival by any means, oh no.

\n
\n

"So how did Killing Floor become so successful you ask? It's a really good question but simple to answer, this game is possibly one of the most clever games ever created due to the fact it's not one of the games where you try to get the other side of the level and re-stock on supplies then trying to get to the other side of that level or trying to gather supplies and making gangs and being a total ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ ruining other people's experience with that game." - scud[i]Ö!

\n
\n

The zombie hordes will ensure death and believe me--they will. Each wave becomes harder than before until meeting the final boss, the Patriarch. In between each wave you can visit the Trader's location which changes with every wave. Players earn money for every kill and for surviving the wave. Use the money to buy: katanas, shotguns, flamethrowers, and more. Select perks at the start of each match for bonuses.

\n

Killing Floor is deliciously fun and shouldn't be missed.

Steel Battalion

\n

Steel Battalion is a Mech-simulator by Capcom for the original Xbox. The game bundles with the controller included. The controller has two control sticks, approximately 40 buttons, and a separate foot pedal.

\n

The controller lights up at key times, especially when taking damage. The unison lighting effect is to make the player "feel" like they are really taking damage.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Steel Battalion is a true sim to first exist on the console. The Mechs acted like real machine and the gameplay feels as close to the real thing as you can get. The controller set up makes you feel like you are in control of the Mech. If you run out of money and don't eject in time--game over! There is no pause button folks... just like real battle.

\n

Truly immersive game, a must-play.

Portal

\n

Portal is a first-person puzzle-platformer by Valve for PC, Xbox 360, and PS3. It was originally bundled with The Orange Box upon release.

\n

Chell is challenged by GLaDOS, an artificial intelligence (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System), to complete puzzles in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center using a portal gun with the promise of cake upon completion.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Portal offers unique gameplay and GLaDOS' dark, dry humor is brilliant. The portal gun is used by creating inter-spatial portals (orange & blue) between two flat planes in order to solve the puzzles. It is amazing, fun, and quite challenging. The test chambers vary in terms of hazards, so be prepared to die--a lot. There are challenge maps and two additional modes are unlocked once the game is completed.

\n

Valve never anticipated Portal would be such a hit with players and was originally a mod for Half Life 2.

'Splosion Man

\n

'Splosion Man is 2.5D action platformer by Twisted Pixel Games for the Xbox 360.

\n

'Splosion Man is created by the laboratory Big Science. He is completely made of explosive material. The purpose is to "splode" through the levels of puzzles, traps, and enemies to escape. A splode is a jump which is used to kill enemies, demolish walls, detonate explosive barrels or even trigger other surrounding effects.

\n
Why you should play
\n

'Splosion Man offers a hefty amount of single-player and 4-player cooperative levels (local or online). Its humor, originality, and simplicity is what makes this classic great. The controls are easy as pie I might add, so there's no difficult combinations to remember. The puzzles are cleverly designed to constantly add new mechanics to the players. It can be challenging but never to the point of frustration or boredom; it's fun. There are so many references to the 1980's that you are sure to be engaged in nostalgic fun.

Earthbound

\n

Earthbound aka Mother 2 is an RPG by Ape and HAL Laboratory for the Wii U (originally NES).

\n

Follow Ness and his friends as they travel the world to collect melodies while defeating the evil alien Giygas.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Earthbound has a Lovecraftian theme that is both dark and fun. There are unique elements to this classic game that I found delightful such as the the numbered health wheel and never combating an enemy beyond your limit. It doesn't punish you but still allows you to gain the XP. Give it try.

Demon's Souls

\n

Demon's Souls is the action RPG by From Software for the PS3 that accumulated more deaths than YouTube has epic fail videos. This is the game that started the Souls series.

\n

The kingdom of Boletaria is being ravaged by a curse. The "Deep Fog" brings forth demons to feast on mortal souls in this dark, fantasy. Brave warriors set out to save the kingdom against this threat.

\n
Why you should play
\n

If you are like me when it comes to playing any series, you have to go to the beginning. Demon's Souls is a testament to decision making all thanks to the auto-save system. Weapon mapping is critical when in combat. Death is cruel... but delicious.

\n

Conker's Bad Fur Day is a crude adult-oriented, action platformer by Rare for the Nintendo 64.

However, when Vincent gets involved with another young woman named Catherine... all hell breaks loose. This is a game that makes you think twice about being unfaithful.

\n
Why you should play
\n

Catherine is a unique game unlike any other that I have played before. The use of puzzles as nightmares due to Vincent's moral dilemma is the game's core. The anime style is a fantastic and will certainly appeal to fans of the genre.

\n
Why you should play

Deus Ex: GOTY is an upgraded edition of the original that started a revolution as far as I am concerned. It brought an all-new gameplay to FPS with a real  immersive 3D, first-person perspective. Despite the original launching over 15 years ago, this is still a favorite among gamers.

Grim Fandango Remastered is an adventure game by LucasArts and Tim Schafer for PC, Mac, PS4, PS Vita, Android, and iOS.

\n

The game combines elements of the Aztec belief of the afterlife with film noir style to create the Land of the Dead. Departed souls, represented as skeleton-like (calaca) figures, must travel to reach their final destination, the Ninth Underworld. The story follows travel agent Manuel "Manny" Calavera as he attempts to save Mercedes "Meche" Colomar.

\n
Why you must play
\n

Grim Fandango Remastered's story, its characters, and humor make it a classic unlike anything else. It truly is one-of-a-kind. You need to pay close attention to things people say, and everything you read and see in order to complete the puzzles. Its stylistic choice to mimic the Mexican paper dolls for the Day of the Dead is wonderful. Even after 17 years from its original launch, this game is still a must-play.

American McGee's Alice

\n

American McGee's Alice is a third-person horror action by Rogue Entertainment and EA for PC.

\n

The game is an unofficial sequel to Lewis Carroll's Alice novels. Set years after Alice's Adventures in Wonderland, it is dark and Alice is maniacal. After witnessing the death of her family in a blaze, Alice suffers from survivor's guilt and is sent to the Rutledge Asylum when she begins losing her grasp on reality. Her only possession... her stuffed rabbit.

\n
Why you must play
\n

It's a steampunk, Gothic horror with no signs of Disney. A dark, deliciously morbid storyline with an amazing soundtrack. The level design and artwork are so elaborate, you will find yourself mesmerized. I cannot tell you how gorgeous it is. The characters are twisted and The Cheshire Cat delivers some of the most memorable lines to date.

\n
\n

"We're all mad here." - The Cheshire Cat

\n
\n

There is currently a petition on Change.org requesting that EA make another Alice game.

Psychonauts

\n

Psychonauts is a fun platformer by Double Fine Productions for PC, Xbox, Xbox 360, PS2, and PS3.

\n

Psychonauts follows Razputin (Raz), a boy with psychic abilities, who runs away from the circus to sneak into a summer camp for those with similar powers to become a "Psychonaut" (spy with psychic abilities).

\n
Why you should play
\n

Psychonauts is a creative game that features fun gameplay, wonderful voice acting, beautiful environment, strange humor, and a great soundtrack. Each character's brain is  a world for Raz to explore. The puzzles are challenging without being too difficult. I love its bizarre cast of characters. They are hilarious and well constructed.

\n

Tim Schafer delivers a fantastic story with the comedic style he's known for. If you love his games, you need to play this one.

Limbo

\n

Limbo is a puzzle-platformer from Playdead for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, PS4, and PC. Its black-and-white theme and lack of dialogue resonate similar to rich film noir. Its artwork speaks of German Expressionism and it is gorgeous.

\n

The darkness hides loads of hazards such as:

\n
    \n
  • lethal bear traps on the forest floor
  • \n
  • deadly monsters hiding in the shadows... giant spiders!!
  • \n
  • glow worms: they attach themselves to the boy's head forcing him to travel in only one direction (I'll let you solve this on your own)
  • \n
\n

The second half features mechanical puzzles and traps that use machinery, electromagnets, and gravity. There is no dialogue or instruction, just the ambient eerie setting in which you must explore while using critical thinking in order to advance. Love it!

\n
Why you should play this
\n

Limbo is intuitive and creative; cold, lonely, and stark. The nameless boy's journey provide a breathtaking experience. The stunning artwork and physics system lend itself to its maze of masterfully crafted puzzles that make every mistake a brutal consequence.

\n

Simply put... it is a perfect and emotionally moving game.

Amnesia: The Dark Descent

\n

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is a first person survival horror available on PC, Mac, and Linux. It is a game about immersion, discovery, and living through a nightmare made by Frictional Games.

\n

If you are in the darkness too long, witness unsettling events, or stare at monsters, this will reduce Daniel's sanity (which needs to be maintained). If not kept in check, you are in for hallucinations that draw the attention of the monsters. Not fun at all!

\n
Why you should play
\n

Amnesia: The Dark Descent is one of the scariest survival horror games I have played on PC. Its thick atmosphere is terrifying. I love how well the gameplay is crafted. The scares are horrific and memorable. The story unfolds slowly to its unsettling climax. In my opinion it is a must-play, you do not know what you're missing.

Castle Crashers

\n

Castle Crashers is a side-scrolling 2D beat 'em up game from The Behemoth available on Xbox 360, PS3, PC, and a remastered for Xbox One.

\n

Castle Crashers offers a single-player and up to a 4-player cooperative gameplay either locally or online. Gain experience points, unlock weapons, animal orbs, earn coins, and unlock characters. The melee and weapon combinations are so much fun to use, especially when fighting the giant cat fish (literally... it's a cat) while in battle on the raging river.

\n
Why you should play
\n

There are giant cats, corn, knights, sandwiches, lollipop swords, and... sketches of unicorns.

\n

The art style of Castle Crashers is by no means any indication that it is a G-rated "baby" game. It's Diablo meets princesses that crashed into the World of Dr. Seuss. It is hysterical, fun, and will make you feel like a crazy button-smashing kid again.

Hello gamers. If you have ever wondered what cult games should be on your must-play list, GameSkinny has got you covered. We have selected some of the best games to play before you die from PC to console.

\n

Cult games are games that were not widely successful, but maintained a strong and dedicated fan following. Some of the games on this list weren't always hits at launch and some gained 'AAA' status afterwards. Others can be successful, critically acclaimed, but overshadowed by others in the same series or released around the same time. Unconventional elements are a common appeal that will also categorize a game as "cult."

It just goes to show you how much of an impact we as gamers make in this industry. Here's our Top 20!

5. Orcs Must Die 2

\n

Orcs Must Die 2 is yet another dungeon crawler with yet another twist to it.

\n

This one is for one or two players, and if you're playing co-op, it's going to be in a male-female duo. You'll be either playing as the male War Mage or the female Sorceress as you cast your way through the campaign or the newly introduced endless mode, which pits you and your partner against wave after wave of enemies until you can't handle it any longer.

\n

Both modes are great with a partner, and switching between roles makes for interesting twists in the gameplay based on different playstyles.

4. Castle Crashers

\n

Castle Crashers takes the four-player top-down view RPG and turns it sideways, literally.

\n

This game is a side-scrolling hack-and-slash game that makes invading castles look fun, and the hand-drawn characters make it look cute.

3. Gauntlet

\n

Gauntlet is a remake of one of the old RPGs that gave Magicka inspiration, and that inspiration came for good reason.

\n

Players can team up by choosing between four different heroes and take on dungeons full of monsters.

\n

Gauntlet brings back all of its old main heroes, but makes them more unique and specialized for players as they slice and dice their way to more loot and some new abilities.

\n

This game is really fun when played in full groups of four, and mixing up the different classes can make for some new experiences each time.

\n

2. Magicka

\n

Magicka harkens back to the old PlayStation 2 days of overhead-view, four-player action-RPGs. But it mixed in some of today's indie charms to create a fun new experience for 1-4 players.

\n

All players take control of a wizard in the sarcastic, Norse-based Magicka universe to save the world using a dynamic spell system that essentially lets players build their own spells to use on the various enemies that they might run across in the game.

1. Portal 2

\n

Portal 2 is the ultimate co-op game, letting players run through the campaign side-by-side and solve puzzles together. You're using the famous gameplay mechanics introduced in the first game of the series, but with a different twist than the single-player campaigns of both the first Portal as well as Portal 2.

\n

This first-person puzzle game is everything that co-op is supposed to be, forcing cooperative play and thinking through its co-op campaign mode.

Co-op games have been making a comeback as of late, especially on the console side, where naturally, it is easier for people to sit on a couch together and grab or share a controller.

Most can agree that anything done by Tim Schafer is a winner in any book. Brutal Legend is no exception. This third-person action-adventure game by Double Fine Productions and Electronic Arts for Xbox 360 and PS3; it's just plain fun.

\n

Tim Schafer was inspired to create the game from his own past musical experiences. The game features the character of Eddie Riggs, voiced by and modeled after Jack Black, a roadie who is transported to a fantasy world inspired by the artwork of heavy metal album covers. Eddie becomes the world's savior, leading the humans against a range of supernatural overlords using a battle axe, his Flying V guitar that can tap into the magical powers of the world, and a customizable hot rod.

\n

The game also features voices of real-life heavy metal musicians including Lemmy Kilmister, Rob Halford, Ozzy Osbourne and Lita Ford and other celebrities such as Tim Curry, as well as more than one hundred metal songs selected by Schafer for inclusion in the game. It's definitely worth playing for its humor and music love.

Team Fortress 2 is a team-based, multi-player FPS video game developed by Valve Corporation. It is a sequel to the original mod Team Fortress. It was first released as part of the video game compilation in The Orange Box for PC, Xbox 360, and then later on PS3.

\n

Team Fortress 2 focuses around two opposing teams, Reliable Excavation & Demolition (RED) and Builders League United (BLU) competing for a combat-based principal objective. These characters are hysterical in every way possible, which is why it makes it a must-play on my list. I'll only share a few.

\n
Characters and Classes:
\n
    \n
  • The Scout: a fast-talking, cocky, baseball fan and street runner from Boston, Massachusetts, who practiced running to "beat his maddog siblings to the fray."
  • \n
  • The Pyro: a mentally unstable pyromaniac of unknown origin or gender, completely clad in a fire-retardant suit and a voice-muffling gas mask.
  • \n
  • The Demoman: a black, one-eyed Scotsman who drinks heavily and hails from Ullapool, Scotland.
  • \n
  • The Heavy: a stereotypical Russian character originating from the USSR, heavy in both figure and accent. Obsessed and affectionate with his guns,  and he loves his enormous mini-gun that he affectionately refers to as "Sascha".
  • \n
  • The Medic: a German doctor from Stuttgart with little regard for the Hippocratic Oath, responsible for keeping his teammates alive. He keeps doves as pets, one of which is named Archimedes.
  • \n

Monkey Island 2: LeChuck's Revenge is an adventure game developed and published by LucasArts. It was the second game of the Monkey Island series, following The Secret of Monkey Island.

\n

The game centers on the wannabe pirate Guybrush Threepwood. After defeating ghost pirate LeChuck in The Secret of Monkey Island, little is known of what happened between Guybrush Threepwood and Elaine Marley. The sequel involves Guybrush's attempts to find the mysterious treasure of Big Whoop.

\n
Characters:
\n
    \n
  • Guybrush Threepwood: The protagonist, a "mighty pirate" and thrill-seeker
  • \n
  • Elaine Marley: Governess of Booty Island and Guybrush's love interest
  • \n
  • LeChuck: The antagonist, Guybrush's sworn enemy
  • \n
  • Largo LaGrande: LeChuck's old first mate whom Guybrush must overcome
  • \n
  • "Voodoo Lady": A mystical woman who assists Guybrush on his journey
  • \n
  • Wally B. Feed: An eccentric cartographer
  • \n
\n

A lot of the humor in this point-and-click adventure game are the lines, references, and music to many of the LucasArts films found throughout the entire game. They are well placed and in good fun.

I didn't know what to expect when I first heard about this game, but I'm glad I played it. Castle Crashers is a side-scrolling, beat 'em up game developed by The Behemoth and Microsoft Game Studios for Xbox 360, PC and PS3. The game is set in a fictional medieval universe in which a dark Wizard steals a mystical gem and captures several Princesses. Four Knights are charged by the King to rescue the Princesses, recover the jewel, and bring the Wizard to justice. Simple enough, right?

\n

This cartoon marvel is funny, and I mean it. The four Knights encounter several enemies along the way which include other Knights, multiple encounters with a cyclops, a giant "cat-fish," and alien invaders! You can also find animal companions for your character that assist you in battle, improve your character's attributes, or provide another special ability such as increased treasure earned from defeated foes. The game supports cooperative gameplay for up to four players, either locally or online.

\n

I highly recommend this game more than anything. The mini-games are just as fun. Don't let the cartoon look fool you though, since you are chopping off heads!

Bulletstorm is a first-person shooter game made by People Can Fly, Epic Games, and Electronic Arts for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC. The game is known for its sense of style and humor by rewarding players with points for performing increasingly insane and creative kills. Bulletstorm doesn't have competitive multi-player modes, but does have a cooperative online play as score attack modes.

\n

The game focuses on combat using firearms and melee attacks. There are various firearms available. The game places heavy emphasis on kicking enemies and using the energy leash. The game's unique features is the "skillshot" gameplay system. It rewards the player for killing opponents in the most creative and destructive ways possible. This can be from killing an enemy in mid-air, to pushing an enemy into a carnivorous plant, or executing an enemy after shooting him in the testicles.

\n

The more complicated or unusual the skillshot, the more points players acquire. The points are used to purchase weapons and upgrades. The weapons are unlocked at set points throughout the game, and after a weapon has been "re-armed" by purchasing it, a "charge shot" for the gun is unlocked at another set point. The humor is in the names the game comes up with for these skillshots and the lines said by the characters throughout the game.

Deadpool is an action comedy beat 'em up game based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The game is developed by High Moon Studios and published by Activision for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC. Former Deadpool comic writer Daniel Way (one of my favorites) created the game's plot, and Nolan North voices Deadpool. The game is true to Deadpool's humor and to the comic series.

\n

As Deadpool progresses, new combos become available. The 'M' rated game breaks the fourth wall, and Deadpool verbally interacts with the player based on skill and progress. Deadpool is armed with both guns and swords. He can also access giant hammers, plasma guns, and a range of other alternatives. A small number of teleportation moves are possible as well. As he slowly falls apart while sustaining damage, players must avoid further damage in order to recover.

\n

The humor in this game is nothing short of what we expect from Deadpool and you won't be disappointed in that regard.

South Park: The Stick of Truth is an outrageous, hysterical RPG by Obsidian Entertainment in collaboration with South Park Digital Studios and released by Ubisoft for Xbox 360, PS3, and PC.

\n

True to the American adult animated television series South Park: The Stick of Truth follows The New Kid, who has moved to into town and becomes involved in a role-play fantasy war involving humans, wizards, and elves, fighting for control of the all-powerful Stick of Truth. The game quickly escalates out of control, bringing them into conflict with aliens, Nazi zombies, and gnomes, threatening the entire town with destruction.

\n

The humans are led by Wizard King Cartman who make their home in the Kingdom of Kupa Keep (a makeshift camp built in Cartman's backyard). Among them are:

\n
    \n
  • Paladin Butters
  • \n
  • Thief Craig
  • \n
  • Cleric Token
  • \n
  • Clyde
  • \n
  • Tweek
  • \n
  • Kenny--who dresses as a princess
  • \n
\n

The humans' rivals are the Drow Elves, who live in the Elven Kingdom (Kyle's backyard) of King Kyle.

\n

Among them are:

\n
    \n
  • Warrior Stan
  • \n
  • Jimmy the Bard
  • \n
\n

The game also features all the classic South Park characters:

\n
    \n
  • Randy Marsh (Stan's father)
  • \n
  • Mr. Garrison
  • \n
  • Jesus
  • \n
  • Mr. Mackey
  • \n
  • Al Gore
  • \n
  • Mr. Slave
  • \n
  • Sentient turd Mr. Hankey
  • \n
  • Stan's Uncle Jimbo
  • \n
  • City Wok owner Tuong Lu Kim
  • \n
  • Terrance and Phillip
  • \n
  • Underpants Gnomes
  • \n
  • The Goth kids
  • \n
  • The Crab People
  • \n
  • Timmy
  • \n
  • Scott Malkinson
  • \n
  • Kevin Stoley
  • \n
\n

I promise this is a game for fans of South Park and doesn't leave any details of the show out. Everywhere are hidden memories from past episodes. This is NOT a game for kids. If you're looking to laugh your a$$ off, this is definitely the game for you.

The Portal series is a gem! Portal is a single-player first-person puzzle-platform video game developed by Valve Corporation. The game was released as a bundle package called The Orange Box for PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Portal 2 is the sequel to the incredible Portal (2007) for PC, Mac, Xbox 360 and PS3 which allowed for co-op.

\n

The games are comprised of a series of puzzles that must be solved by teleporting the player's character and simple objects using the "Aperture Science Handheld Portal Device", a device that can create interspatial doorways between two flat planes. The player's character is named Chell, and she is challenged by an artificial intelligence named GLaDOS (Genetic Lifeform and Disk Operating System) to complete each puzzle in the Aperture Science Enrichment Center, using the portal gun with the promise of cake and counseling when all is completed. The game's unique physics allow momentum to be retained through portals, requiring creative use of the portals to maneuver through the test chambers.

\n

In Portal 2, players take on the role of Chell once again in the single-player campaign, as one of two robots--Atlas or P-body--in the cooperative campaign, or as a simple humanoid icon in community-developed puzzles. The game includes a two-player cooperative mode. Both player-characters are robots that can control separate portal guns and can use each other's portal. The color scheme is different for each character. One is blue and purple, the other orange and red.

\n

These games are at the top of any gamer's list when it comes to hardcore fun. GLaDOS is a character all her own with every sarcastic remark that makes you want to scream "BI$#%!" The other characters in Portal 2 are just as funny and when in co-op mode playing as Atlas and P-Body is quite amusing. These are a must-play to any list!

What can I say about the Borderlands series? Borderlands and Borderlands 2 are truly fantastic games and are among my favorites just from the characters alone. Thank you 2K for Claptrap!

We all love our video games, and there is nothing better than a game that has us in stitches from laughter. Here's a list of 10 games that are guaranteed to make you laugh while enjoying great game time.

\n

Conker: Live & Reloaded is a hilarious action-platform game developed by Rare and exclusively released for the original Xbox in 2005. The single player mode is a remake of the 2001 game Conker's Bad Fur Day for the Nintendo 64 that includes new stages. This includes a new multiplayer mode utilizing Xbox Live. Multiplayer consists of different game modes such as Capture the Flag or the standard Deathmatch modes.

21.) Conkers Bad Fur Day - The Great Mighty Poo
\n

There are some crappy boss fights out there, but The Great Mighty Poo in Conkers Bad Fur Day definitely takes the cake. The whole fight is a song, and the lyrics are immature but also hilarious. Conker must avoid giant globs of poop being thrown at him, and when the opportunity presents itself he must throw a roll of toilet paper in the bosses mouth. Just make sure you remember to flush.

22.) Ocarina Of Time - Dark Link
\n

Located in the notorious water temple, Dark Link will copy just about every move you do and then some. This fight is one of my all time favorite Legend of Zelda fights, because fighting a physical manifestation of yourself is always an amazing fight. Just make sure you don’t target Dark Link at all, he’ll just parry all of your attacks.

23.) Charlie Murder - The Angel Of Chaos
\n

If you manage to collect all of the body parts of smockula you are granted access to the good ending for Charlie Murder, and must face the angel of chaos to save the world. This three phase fight is definitely the best fight in the game--after knocking off one of the five bars of health that the angel of chaos has he transforms into a demon with a new set of attacks. Phase three begins when you get him down to half health, he then turns into a giant demon and spews flaming skulls at you. Make sure you have plenty of health items, you’re going to need them.

24.) Black Knight Sword - The Chicken
\n

One of the best boss fights in Black Knight Sword definitely has to be the Chicken boss. After defeating the giant fire breathing chicken, you then have to ride it through a bullet hell level and face another boss; which happens to be a giant egg that shoots lasers at you. Dodging is key for this fight, and make sure you pick up plenty of fruit; they will give you health.

25.) Scott Pilgrim vs The World - Gideon Graves
\n

Getting to Gideon Graves in Scott Pilgrim vs The World is a chore by itself, but actually defeating Gideon himself is nightmarish. During the first phase of the fight Gideon is fairly tough, especially when he decides to become invincible for awhile. After you defeat Gideon he sucks you into his heart, where you must face a grotesque version of Gideon and the other evil exes. His only weakness in this phase is his heart, but be careful because the stage starts to fall apart after awhile.

26.) Castle Crashers - The Cyclops Knight
\n

Castle Crashers is chalk-full of hilarious moments and epic references, but the Cyclops Knight fight hs the best. It's a fairly basic fight, just beat the snot out of him and avoid his attacks, but what really stood out for me during this fight was when you kill the boss. After falling into a pit of lava he gives a thumbs up as he melts, a nice reference to Terminator 2, which is one of my favorite movies.

27.) Jet Force Gemini - Mizar
\n

One of my favorite N64 games, Jet Force Gemini, had an amazing fight between you and Mizar. The boss will start off by shooting meteors and lasers at you before trying to come in for the kill; make sure you jump over the shock wave he makes, that does a lot of damage. His only weakness for the beginning of the fight is his back, and it becomes open to hit only when he flies back to his perch.

28.) Super Meat Boy - Little Horn
\n

Super Meat Boy is notorious for its controller breaking difficulty, even though the person in this video makes the boss look hilariously easy--I can assure you that you will die at least a dozen times on this boss. Little Horn sticks out because he is a giant sentient mound of dead super meat boys, quite disturbing.

29.) World Of Warcraft - The Sha Of Fear (Heroic 10M)
\n

The Sha Of Fear fight on normal is really epic, but the heroic version of the fight is a hundred times more amazing. The fight starts off when one of the tanks stands in a giant pillar of light and fights the Sha of Fear; after awhile he will send 5 random players to one of the terraces at the edge of the terrace of springs. There, one tank, one healer, and 3 dps must fight off a corrupted Protector of the Springs in under 60 seconds; if not then the other 5 players will be sent to another terrace and no one will be fighting him.

\n

After you get him down to a certain amount of health, he will suck you into his world of fear, where another set of challenges awaits you; it’s basically an entirely new fight. I never had the pleasure of defeating him, but I have gotten to the second phase of the fight. Nothing is more epic than fighting off physical manifestations of your fear. Oh, almost forgot: the fight takes about 15 to 20 minutes to complete, which is one of the longest fights in the game.

30.) Resident Evil 5 - The Boulder
\n

Resident Evil 5 got really ridiculous and hilarious at the end, especially when Chris, Sheva and Wesker all end up in a random volcano. My favorite part about the last fight with Wesker isn’t when he screams “CHRIS!!!” while melting, or the double rocket launcher attack that Chris and Sheva use to destroy Wesker; my favorite part is when Chris has a boxing match with a random boulder. The entire sequence is a quick time event, but the experience had me in stitches. Definitely one of the funniest moments in the Resident Evil franchise.

There have been some really cool, and most epic boss fights in the history of video games. But with there being so many, how do we know which ones are the best? It's all a matter of opinion, with that said this is my list for the 100 best boss fights of all time.

\n

What makes a boss fight the best? Well a number of things; the fight has to be memorable, it can also be epic, or outright insane. A boss fight can be unforgiving in difficultly, or it can be as simple as pressing the A button. Whatever the boss fight is, all that matters is that I enjoyed it in one way or another.

In an exciting move, Xbox One announced a list of 65 indie companies they are working with to create games for the recently released platform. The Behemoth is one of them. Unfortunately, that's literally all we know for now.

Seriously guys? Not even a hint?

Yep, Seriously.

All we know is that they've been tapped to work on a game for Xbox One.

Short and sweet: We're on the list of devs working on some secret something or other for #XboxOne ;) http://t.co/NLLfsk5kE7

— The Behemoth (@thebehemoth) February 27, 2014

Which (of course) means it's time to ask:

What do you think the latest genius game from The Behemoth will be?

Bear in mind, these are the developers that brought us Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater.

So far, their Twitter followers and I are totally on the same page.

Spill and speculate! What do you want to see next?

The Cave, another game by Double Fine was published by Sega, and created by the one and only Ron Gilbert. The puzzle/platformer is surprisingly more fun with just one player using a controller and everyone else yelling at that one player what to do. Castle of Illusion Starring Mickey Mouse has simply got to be one of the most pleasant remakes from the 90's NES era. Though no co-op or multiplayer is built into the game, the lack of any real loss from dying, this begs for the controller to be passed around after each failed attempt. Created by Sega Studios Australia and published by both Sega and Disney Interactive Studios, this is one of my favorite walks down memory lane.

As most of us know, some games are meant to be played with other people. For some reason being able to sit side by side with someone, a friend or family member, enhances certain games and the enjoyment derived from them. I have complied just a few games that are great to play with the family, both young and old. These are easy to pick up and play games with tons of replay ability. Enjoy!

Castle Crashers: Bring the Pain https://www.gameskinny.com/ubgy3/castle-crashers-bring-the-pain https://www.gameskinny.com/ubgy3/castle-crashers-bring-the-pain Thu, 15 Aug 2013 07:34:56 -0400 Jeni Harrison

Okay, don't pull out the pitchforks but I'm not much of a console gamer, to be honest I'd rather be rocking out on my laptop or on my phone.

It's not a hatred of Sony or Microsoft or anything like that, but medical. I suffer from Hypermobility and all the button mashing makes my hands cramp. I usually get a few matches out of Street Fighter before Chun Li needs to take a break because my hands have been KO'd, and I usually only manage an hour or so of some retro Spyro or Crash Bandicoot on the PS3 before I give it in.

However, my lovely Husband-to-be downloaded Castle Crashers on the XBox 360 when it was on sale a few weeks ago here in the UK. My girliness squeeeed at the music, the pretty colours and I was in love as soon as I saw the Pink Knight!

Castle Crashers - Purple Knight and Pink Knight by MelSpontaneus

So I let DAN_HERE!!! and my brother Rightobobo convince me to try it out.

I LOVE IT !

I will not often admit the boys are right, but sadly on this occassion they are, and ever since I've been playing like a crazy person.

I'm the heart covered Pink Knight and Dan is the Antlered Purple Knight. But I'm cuter, got it?

I shoot fricken' rainbows. I started with a lollypop weapon and shot heart shaped arrows.

It's the first time in a long time I have managed to finish a game (I usually play more open ended ones) and now we are running through on some other guys. Granted compared to the two boys I suck, the ends of my thumbs are not flat for years of repeated button pushing so they have me at an advantage there, but I hope I am not awful.

It takes a lot for me to want to play a game, I'm pretty set in my ways afterall; give me WoW, The Sims, some Pokemon, I can pick it up and be rocking away in no time but it's nice to have found a game I can play with my friends and family and be halfway decent at.

Yay for Castle Crashers for restarting my journey into console gaming, a journey that was paused at the PS1.

The Top 10 Games to Play With Your Mom https://www.gameskinny.com/3jpuy/the-top-10-games-to-play-with-your-mom https://www.gameskinny.com/3jpuy/the-top-10-games-to-play-with-your-mom Sat, 11 May 2013 19:04:01 -0400 Stephen Johnston

Mothers day is here. Your mom wants to spend time with you. You want to spend time with your mom. However, you don't have to do another brunch at the garden club. You could introduce mom to a bit of your world. Here are 10 games that will make the experience fun for both of you and provide a backdrop for bonding with mom.

My goal was to find a wide range of games. Every mom and child combo will be different, but I'm confident that you can find something in this list to work with! If you think a game should be added, let me know in the comments.

Note: Nothing in this article should be taken to imply that moms can't be good at video games. A mom who is already experienced with video games does not need a top 10 list. I'm assuming your mom has some things to learn.

#10: Mario Kart

Mario Kart is a genre defining game for multi-player party fun. It is wildly entertaining, easy to pickup, has some challenge for mastery and has enough randomness to keep things interesting even for skilled players.

#9: Portal

Portal 2 may be an oddball here, but it is possibly one of the greatest co-op games ever made. So, if you and your mom enjoy playing it, you have a fantastic experience ahead of you.

#8: Hearts

My survey of moms lead me to the conclusion that Hearts was very popular among the older mom crowd. Games.com has a multi-player version and you and your mom can jump right in.

#7: Angry Birds

My focus in this series is on co-op games and while Angry Birds is a single player game I think it belongs. First, Angry Birds has defined casual games on mobile devices. So, this could be the gateway drug your mom needs if she is not a gamer already. Second, when your mom beats your high score you will be swapping the phone back and forth immediately.

#6: Terminator Salvation Arcade

I hear you already, you're saying: "How in the hell am I supposed to play a Terminator standup shooting game with MY MOM!?!?!". Well, this was added to the list based on the recommendation of my wife, who is also a mom. Is she biased? Maybe, but hey, I convened a focus group.

#5: Castle Crashers

When you read this article title, you didn't immediately think of Castle Crashers. However consider that if you have 3 leveled up characters the relative contribution of the 4th isn't really noticed. Your mom can wander around, swinging at rocks just like my 4 year old does, while you and the rest of the party beat heads. If she ends up being good at the game, and she probably will since it is easy to master the basics, then it is more head crushing awesomeness for everyone.

#4: Team Fortress 2

Yes, I know TF2 is an FPS. FPS games are most decidedly not the normal venue for moms. However, TF2 has two critical elements. 1. It requires Steam so you have an excuse to get mom to install it. 2. It is free to play, so mom can't claim that the $60 entry fee is why she doesn't want to try it. Get mom in game and get making giblets.

#3: Minecraft

Mom may not immediately "get" Minecraft. However, I know more than a few families who have their mom, themselves and their children on a Minecraft server where they just build things and chat. For them, Minecraft is hugely conducive to being a part of each other's lives.

#2: Mario Party

Mario Party is the father and mother of casual party play. There is also a version available for just about every Nintendo platform ever made. If your mom can't derive some fun from one of these games then check for a pulse.

#1: Words with Friends

Words with Friends is Scrabble that you play on your phone, iPad or whatever other platform it is on. Words with Friends is a fun game, can be played asynchronously, and you can chat. You can interact with your mom, but not have to respond instantly. It is a win for everyone.

Moms are Awesome

Whatever gaming you and your mom enjoy, have fun this mother's day and make sure you celebrate the woman who raised you and all of the mothers in your life. Mom's come in all shapes and sizes, but they all want to keep in touch with their children. I hope that this list helps you do that.
