Constellation Companions
Not all members of Constellation are willing to travel around with you. Constellation members you can recruit can be found at The Lodge if you don’t accept their invitation when completing their associated main story quest. Since you’re all working together, there’s no cost to bring any of these companions along with you.

Temporary Companions
During some missions, especially those from the main storyline or related to a faction, you’ll end up with an undismissable companion. Sometimes this companion is one you can normally take with you, other times it’s a person who’s only joining you for that specific mission. These are the mission specific temporary companions you can travel with in Starfield.

- Davis Wilson during False Positives and Leader of the Pack.
- Walter Stroud during the main quest All That Money Can Buy.
- Huan Daiya during the Crimson Fleet mission The Best There Is.
- Cora Coe (kind of) during Sam Coe’s companion mission Matters of the Hart.
General Companions
In your travels you’ve probably seen someone you can recruit, but their name is simply a title relating to their specialty. These are general companions or crew members. They don’t have a unique name, unique stories, or special interactions. You can find between one to three of these NPCs in bars and taverns throughout the Settled Systems. If you plan on building the max amount of outposts and crewing a large ship, you may need to hire a few of these NPCs.
